The lifespan of a railway vehicle, as a whole, is much longer than the life cycle of some of the technological components that incorporate. The evolution of technology involves the quick obsolescence of some systems which are outdated even before its commissioning. Trying to solve this problem arises the concept of Technology Refreshment, to anticipate the expected evolution of technology from the design phase, preparing the vehicles so they can easily incorporate new features and functionality that extend the life cycle within appropriate levels of technological upgrades.
