The thesis aims to suggest a model for the study of the rail freight transport system, applicable, in this case, to the metropolitan area of Zaragoza. Its utility has been sought from a systemic interdisciplinary approach –systems and transport engineering, economic and transport geography, spatial planning– for the analysis of a complex system as is the transport system, whose flexibility allows it to be applied to all modes and in any geographical space.
